As a passionate believer in the power of learning, it has been a privilege
to witness and be part of the power it has to transform individual and
organisational lives in the 27 years I have worked at Plymouth Business
School. The stimulation and nurturing of curiousity, capacity and ability
to explore, identify and model excellence in individuals and organisations
is my driving force. Both individuals and organisations learn. People
are an organisation’s lifeblood; without their creativity, energy, commitment,
drive and enthusiasm all that there is, is a lifeless set of processes
and structures doomed to stagnation at best and destruction at worst.
The main thread running through my career is the concern for the development
of learning and expertise in individuals and organisations. The foci have
included:
Development of the HR professional body in the South West, particularly
by leading the professional development programme.
Management development activity in South West organisations,
Contribution to the HR professional body (CIPD) nationally,
Leadership of applied research by the Business School into organisational
learning and its use in organisations, particularly with regards to the
success of small organisations.
